Fan-fare

Hey all! Back at it again. Cad time! I think I am really finished with the floor plans for the hotel now. So that is good news. I'm working on the elevations for it...but I don't really know what to do...because Vicente was busy all day, and then I think he left early to go to the hamptons. Or maybe thats next week. Lucky! I think ones of these times he is going to take me with him. I'll go to the hamptons!

Then I creeped on the office from my desk and got some pics while everyone was at lunch. Noice! (purposeful type-o. Say it!)  I even had my lunch on the red steps in times square today. Hooray for the infamous Subway!

When I got a block from home Lindsay texted me and said she just got off work and she wanted to go to Dylan's Candy Shop for candy. And since I definitely didn't want to walk up our 63 stairs for no reason I walked around the neighborhood. I even found out where the D&D building is!! We live like 3 blocks from it. Crazy! I have to go in some time. I have heard great things...

Then I got back to Dylan's and Lindsay and I got candy for dinner! Don't tell my mother.

And guess what. We bought a fan! Best purchase of the century I would say. It is so hot here and our room gets ZERO circulation. Cool. So we bought a fan. Its really nice.

time to watch Friends!

Lets all scream for ice cream

Yup you guessed it! I worked today.

Who knew!?

I worked on the cad plans for the hotel. I didn't get much help with it and the other designers didn't have anything to do for me today, so it was pretty boring. But thats ok.

I actually went to a new place for lunch! Well my mom, Lindsay, and I had gone there before. But normally I go to subway everyday-so it was a big change for me! I had a chocolate muffin and a smoothie. Nice and healthy I would say.

The afternoon went ok. I feel so inadequate. I'm not sure what I'm doing and its frustrating. And I keep doing things wrong. I don't like it. And New York is just so busy! I miss my car so bad. I'm already tired of all the people. Its definitely a change from little ol' Logan!

But then I came home from work and went straight to Central Park. It was so nice! I loved just walking around and listening to my music.

Then when I got home Lindsay and I went to the grocery store and I got ice cream for dinner. Yay!

I'll take sand over city.

Sorry I didn't blog yesterday. Too much to do!

So yesterday we finally figured out how to get laundry done. The laundromat is very close so that was nice!

And then we headed off to the Beach!! We went out to Long Island and went to Jones Beach. It is huge! It is 6 miles long and it feels like a mile wide.-ok maybe not that much! But it is a big beach. And the waves were massive! But the water was freezing. I have no idea how people actually had their whole bodies in there.
I loved getting away from the city. It was such a great change. I am definitely going out there a few more times while I am here!
Then that night my mom and I went to another broadway play. I know! Surprise! We went to Newsies. INCREDIBLE! It was a perfect broadway play. The dancing and singing was fantastic! Go to it if you ever get a chance! I loved it!

Then today was more work work work. But hey! Only 23 more days. I'm not counting.

I worked on the cad plans for the hotel and made big changes with Vicente. I get to work with him a lot on the project. and it is great to watch him work first hand. How does he come up with this stuff so quickly?!

Then I just got to have a lazy night. Cool! I wish it was cool here. I am melting! Bleh!

A walk in the park....or Times Square.

We got up and headed off to the singles ward. It was sooooo early! Boo! And everyone was gone for the weekend so it ended up being like 30 people there. It was weird... but in the family ward they told us we should go to the singles ward, but then they found out I was married and then they would just say "Oh." and then it was even more awkward. So I'm in a weird place!! But there are only 4 more sundays left. Nice! But not like I'm counting down till I get to see my husband or anything... ;)

Then we had to get another Broadway play in before my mother left. So we jumped the subway to Times Square. We got in the longest line ever to get half price tickets. The show we wanted to see was all sold out! So the people there talked us into going to Priscilla. It is "fabulous!" they said.

Priscilla was not fabulous. The costumes were good and so was the dancing! And so were all of the basically naked muscled men -if you like that kind of thing ;)- But it was about 3 drag queens and their travels through the out back of Australia. It was soooo crude. And they used the 'F' word more than I cared to count. So it was definitely a disappointment. But oh well! It was broadway. And the theater and lights are always great to experience.

Well how did you like that little review, eh?!

Then on our way home we stopped at Dylan's candy bar and got more candy. Yippee! Can never have enough of that. Oh and maybe a frozen hot chocolate to go :]

A Day of Broadway

Great day! We got ready and headed off to Times Square. It was time for our Broadway show! We got tickets for the 2:00 show of Peter and the Starcatcher. It is the story about Peter Pan before he became Peter Pan. It was incredible!! It was hilarious and we were almost falling out of our seats it was so good! We had fantastic seats by the way.
Then we walked around Times Square and got a McDonalds Coke :)
Then we had to go back to another Broadway show at 8:00. This time we went to Sister Act. It was about a woman that witnesses a murder and then the police have to hide her in a convent. It was very funny too. but it wasn't as good as Peter. I want to see the Peter one again! And we could do all of this because of my wonderful mother. Thanks Mom!!
It was so fun to see all the lights and the people at the Broadway plays. So amazing!

Would you look at that!

Military

It was a half day of work today!! Sweeeeeettt. I was sooo happy. And then we don't have work on monday so I am going to be spoiled. So at least next week is a short week but then the next will be a full week and it will be sooooo long. Bleh.
But then today Vicente wanted me to do some sketches for this hotel. Scary!! I am not a great sketcher....so we shall see how that goes....

Then my mom and I headed off to Fleet week! Some huge ships from the military were in this week so we have been seeing all of the uniformed military walking around New York. Very cool. There was the Marines, Navy, and the Coast Guard. The ships were incredible! And so huge! It was cool to see the things that you only see on tv in real life. My mom and I even got our own little personal tour from one of the Marines. He was our new best friend. We almost had to go out for drinks with him too! He didn't was us to leave. So silly.

Then we got Lindsay and we went to Johnny Rockets for dinner. Cute diner! Shakes and burgers. Delicious!

Italian

CAD! Yup it was a cad day. But now I feel better about it! Because... I got a little info. It is a hotel and I am doing the presentation drawings for Vicente. He is doing the presentation on June 6th! And he said I could be there! Cool. But terrifying! So now I'm just trying to get all the drawings perfect. Takes for-ev-er.

Then my mom picked me up and we met up with Lindsay and we headed down to Little Italy for dinner. We went to our new favorite place. Da Nicos! Amazing! It is pretty authentic and the waiters are really italian.

But this one waiter is crazy. His name is Adam and he is our new best friend. He made us laugh all night!

Lady: "How long is the wait for dinner?"
Adam: "uhh...about 30 seconds."

We laughed our heads off!!! We had to get a pic with him and he didn't want us to leave. Haha! I am going there every week while I am here.

Times Square. I love how it came out black and white but the boards are colored! Awesome!

 Free food from Adam!

 Calamari Pasta

And free desert from Adam. He also brought us fruit!

Oh hey.

Yep. More of the same today. But today everyone was gone in Florida doing some measurements. They left yesterday after work and they got back at 4 today and still had to come back to the office! Craziness. What a quick trip.
It was nice that it was quiet. I worked in cad. It was great.

And my mom and I went and got pedicures after work! So fun! And we went to the diner and had a small dinner. I need to go to sleep. Whew!

Oh I snuk I few pics today while everyone was gone. (Holy cow snuck is not a real word! Weird. Say "snuck" all by itself. It sounds ridiculously funny. Do it!)

More of the same.

Today was basically the same as yesterday. I got up. Went to the office. And worked on CAD.

I guess this really keeps my cad practice up! And I did get to work closely with Vicente today. He even asked my opinion for what he should do on a wall! He didn't like the answer....but it was cool to watch him work anyways.

I went to subway for lunch. Hoorah! And talked to my wonderful mother and my darling husband.

Then my mom picked me up from work and we wandered around the area. We even found the Empire State Building. Its really tall. ;)

First day of The Office.

So today was the big day! The first day of the internship.

And of course today it had to be pouring. Pouring rain so that my pants were soaked up to my knees. Cool.

I had my mom walk me to work! We had bonding time. Thanks mom!
And in the most awkward way ever I finally made it up to the office on the 10th floor.
You get to the top and the elevator door opens and then there are 3 different doors that say Vicente Wolf Associates on them. Bad news. SO lets pick door number 2! I ring the bell and wait....Wrong! A janitor walks out of door number 3 and says, "Oh! You want this door." Thank you Mr. Janitor Man! I walk in and hope someone finds me. My dear friend Maureen - who I have been emailing- comes to my rescue.

I get a great tour of the office. It has great big windows, but the office is a lot smaller than I was expecting. I don't really know what I was expecting, but I don't think this was it. On the far side of the office was a conference room where they have client meetings. There is even a separate hallway that leads specifically to the conference room so that clients don't have to walk through the entire office. (previously mentioned- door number two.) Then they have another office and then Maureen's office. She is the woman! Then there is the designer section. There are Vicente Wolf, 4 other designers and then me. My desk is kind of in the middle of it all. And then at the back there is the Material/Resource/Storage/Break/Lunch room. Good room.

Today I started out by cutting out tiny pieces of fabric and stapling them onto the POs for an entire residence. That was a lot of fabric! I only got halfway through and then the big boss pulled me away to do work for him. He gave me a floor plan that wasn't scaled. We scanned it in. Put the Jpeg in CAD and then attempted to scale it from there. Then I had to go over the entire floor and redraw it in CAD because they didn't have the original file. I have to finish that up and then start on the second floor tomorrow.

At least I am staying busy! It nice to have things to do. It was a long day though. I hope tomorrow goes a little better and I start figuring out how to do things. One day down....a lot to go.

Best purchase of the day

Tiny Island

Today was a great slow day. We got up and went to church here in NY! It was a way nice ward too. With tons of visitors! The bishop even made all the visitors stand up in sacrament meeting....weird. But we had people come up and say hi-so it was swell.

We then came home and got changed and then headed down to Little Italy again! I just love that place :) We went to a little restaurant and had pasta for lunch. NOM NOM NOM! And we even got Eclairs to take home.

On our way home we decided to take the tram that is right by our apartment. The tram is one of those sky trams that runs on the cables. It ran parallel to the Queensboro Bridge over to Roosevelt Island. It is the tiniest Island! It is long, but not wide at all. And the weirdest thing is how the apartment buildings just run down the island. It was very beautiful and calm and so quiet! We got to sit on the waters edge and eat our eclairs. We reluctantly headed home to call it an early night.

Now we need to rest up for our big day tomorrow! Lindsay and I start our internships tomorrow in the big city! I am so incredibly nervous. Wish me luck!
